Earlier this year the Sippican Historical Society announced that it had received a pair of shoe buckles that belonged to Rochester-native Major Earl Clapp, who fought in the Revolutionary War. Soon after we received an e-mail from Donna Lee (Thompson) Tufts informing us that she is actually related to Major Clapp! Donna Lee Tufts grew up in Rochester and her mother, Lillian Amelia Clapp, kept family genealogy records that documented that she is a direct descendant of Major Clapp. She encouraged Donna Lee to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, but Donna Lee never joined. The Sippican Historical Society is thrilled to learn of this important relationship.
