Paul Robinson gives us new perspectives about science and how Benjamin Franklin shaped scientific perspective, creating an early American identity of experimental exploration. Why did Benjamin Franklin and his peers think that the United States was the best at it? Discover how Franklin and early American scientists defined science as a fundamentally American activity and helped the United States become a scientific powerhouse.

Dr. Paul Rubinson is Professor of History at Bridgewater State University. His research focuses on Cold War history, international relations and science. Author of Redefining Science: Scientists, the National Security State, and Nuclear Weapons in Cold War America, his next book focuses on American scientists and human rights.

This event is free and open to the public thanks to the members of the Sippican Historical Society. Donations are gratefully accepted and new members are always welcome. Dr. Rubinson’s talk begins after the Sippican Historical Society’s Annual Meeting at 6:30.
