Sippican Historical Society Seeks Volunteers

If you’re new to the Massachusetts South Coast or have lived in Marion your whole life, there are ways to share your skills.

Archives:

Research and document new objects, images and documents as they enter the collection. Use conservation techniques (we can help you learn) to store objects. Research connections and tell stories from the collection. Transcribe (and sometimes translate, if you have the skills) documents.

Education:

Greet visitors and answer questions at the Ellis House Museum. Lead education programs for school groups. As a team, create exhibits and content for the SHS web site. Museum lead walking tours, or find other ways to share stories of Marion.

Museum and Membership:

Serve as an ambassador to take care of the Ellis House Museum and Memorial Garden, promote museum membership or organize events.

As a volunteer, you can choose projects that fit your interests and schedules. Sound interesting? Email us to move ahead at

The Sippican Historical Society led the renovation of the Marion Post Office, the General Store and Browne’s Pharmacy (now Kate’s Simple Eats) and the Town House. It also supported the exterior preservation restrictions on the Old North School and the Captain Hadley House. We continue to preserve the manuscript and material history of Marion as well as the stories of her people in our museum and archives.
