Let’s Talk About History Book Club

Over the summer, staff and volunteers dipped into the topic of King Philip’s War (1675-1676). As 350 years pass, it’s sobering to remember how many people around Marion were killed, displaced or sold into slavery. A key ceremony was held at the mouth of the Sippican River in 1676, changing the trajectory of the conflict, which leads us to ask: What was Marion (or rather, this part of Rochester) like in the 17th Century.

Thanks to digitation of numerous letters, records and scholarly interest, you can learn much about 17th Century life in southeastern Massachusetts. We’ve assembled a list of books you want to read – and we’ll have two book group dates to share and discuss the topic: January 29, 6:30pm at SHS and February 5, 6:30pm for a virtual book group.
