DESCRIPTION:The Town of Marion invites the community to commemorate the renaming of Point Road Park to Pina Park. Named after Manuel and Felizarda Pina\, the couple who donated the land for the park in 1930\, it acknowledges their generosity and legacy. \nIt’s also the first peek at the Historical Marker program that SHS is developing thanks to an FY2025 Community Preservation Act grant. Ten locations around Marion will tell stories of the Town’s history\, with additional information available on the Sippican Historical Society website. \nFor more information about the Point Road history in the 20th Century\, look at the Marion Historical Commission’s research report on the Town’s Portuguese\, Azorean and Cape Verdean history.

SUMMARY:Obsessed with Light
DESCRIPTION:Discover the life Loie Fuller\, the world traveler whose innovative choreography set the course of 20th century dance in this award-winning documentary. Open to all\, donations appreciated. \nObsessed with Light pulls back the curtain on Loïe Fuller (1862-1928)\, a wildly original performer and choreographer who propelled herself into swirling abstractions of dance\, fabric and movement that made audiences gasp. She even pioneered the ingenious use of electricity for the stage\, even building a glass floor so that she could be lit from below. Anyone who has been to a rock concert by artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers or Taylor Swift has seen a modern version of her lighting designs. \nThis 2023 film by Sabine Krayenbühl and Zeva Oelbaum features the Tony and Emmy-winning American actress Cherry Jones as the voice of Loïe Fuller and the choreography of Jody Sperling. \nObsessed with Light is a film about transformation. It is about a Midwestern vaudeville performer who performed with Buffalo Bill before becoming a world-famous star of Belle Époque Paris. Fuller captivated audiences with her elaborate productions of ephemeral\, shape-shifting abstractions. It’s about a woman\, described by contemporaries as “odd and badly dressed\,” who transformed herself into the “Fairy of Light” onstage during the Art Nouveau movement. It’s about a woman who became famous on her own terms– unapologetic about her body type and open about her sexual preference. And it’s about a visionary artist who disrupted the prevailing notions of dance and the imagined limits of the human body. Lastly\, the film is about a lost modernist whose story is crucial to understanding both early cinema and performance. \nWatch the trailer at www.obsessedwithlightdocumentary.com. \n
