“Meet Joe Jefferson” opens on May 4, 2023
There’s still time to enjoy our exhibit “In Sickness and in Health – 20th Century Marion.” But behind the scenes, we’re excited about what you’ll see next in the Ellis Gallery.
Joseph Jefferson III (1829 – 1905) dazzled audiences across the United States, Australia and England. Known as “America’s Actor,” he was an infant when he was carried onto the stage to perform. Acting, writing and exploring characterized his life, and no one tired of his role as “Rip Van Winkle.”
A frequent visitor to Marion, Jefferson built a home near Grover Cleveland’s on Buttermilk Bay. Jefferson enjoyed the outdoors and enjoyed creating art while in Upper Buzzard’s Bay.
Come meet Joe Jefferson and discover his life and work from May 4 to July 8, 2023.
